Transforming lives and systems

FIPS delivers lasting impact across Sub-Saharan Africa at two connected levels, improving the lives of individual farmers and strengthening the systems that shape their opportunities. Our approach combines deep community presence, science-led innovation, and strong partnerships to drive sustainable and scalable change.

At the farm level, FIPS Africa ensures smallholders and young agri-entrepreneurs can access practical, affordable technologies that boost food security and incomes. Through our Village-Based Advisors and Farm Business Agents, farmers receive trusted, hands-on support at their farm gate to test innovations, adopt improved practices, and grow resilient livelihoods.

At the system level, FIPS Africa collaborates with market actors, county governments, research institutions, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to enhance the rules, relationships, and incentives that drive agricultural transformation. We strengthen value chains, expand market access, and build resilience across the food system.

The principles that guide us

FIPS’ work is guided by 4 principles that ensure that every action is inclusive, sustainable, and transformative. These principles shape how we engage with farmers, partners, and communities across Africa.

Include

FIPS Africa listens deeply, respects local knowledge, and designs solutions that meet the diverse needs of women, men, youth, and marginalised groups. FIPS’ whole-village approach ensures equitable benefits by considering intersecting factors such as gender, age, disability, economic status, and geography. Internally, we foster workforce diversity, and externally, we collaborate with partners whose values align, strengthening shared understanding and enabling innovative, system-wide solutions.
